This clock would have been made by the firm run by M. Charpentier who succeeded Charles Oudin and his son. Oudin himself was a celebrated nineteenth century maker and a pupil of Breguet. He was succeeded by his son who in turn was succeeded by Charpentier. The business retained the name of Oudin using the signature Charles Oudin à Paris and sometimes, as in this case, mentioning the links with the navy. The business was at the Palais Royal between 1860 and 1870, thereafter it moved to Rue Charlot and tended to use the name Charpentier rather than Oudin. Height: 19" (48 cms.). Sold |
