31484C.BR A very attractive triple pad top ebonised bracket clock. The case of typical form, with three shallow pads to the arched top, has a brass carrying handle and brass beading to the three pads. The front and rear corners of the clock have brass inlaid canted strips and the front door has brass edging to the glass. The base of the clock is brass bound with brass ogee feet to the four corners. There are fishscale sound frets to both sides backed by red silk. The eight day twin gut fusee movement has five knopped pillars and a verge pendulum. The wheel work is well fretted out with nicely shaped collets fixing the wheels to the arbors. It strikes the hours on a bell mounted above the top plate. The backplate is sparsely engraved with floral scrolls and there is a nicely shaped and chamfered pendulum with a brass disc bob. There is a pendulum hold fast to the middle of the backplate. |

The brass dial has a strike/silent dial in the arch with a silvered centre. The main dial has Roman numerals with Arabic outer numerals and again has a silvered centre with a signature in flowing script for the maker ‘Coleman, London.’ The clock has well fretted brass hands and a date aperture above 6 o’clock. The clock has gilded spandrels to the four corners and to the sides of the strike/silent dial in the arch.
Height to base of handle: 16" (41 cms.)
There are a number of different makers with the surname Coleman whose dates would coincide with the date of this clock. It is, therefore, impossible to be completely certain which of the clockmakers this clock was made by but it is a fine quality clock with great proportions.
