CORRIE, LONDON. AN ENGLISH TWIN FUSEE GILDED BRASS CASED MANTEL CLOCK. CIRCA 1845.

A very attractive brass cased mantel clock. The case of identical style to those used by McCabe for some of his mantel clocks and, with the addition of a handle, for some of his carriage clocks. It takes the form of a canted cornered case with a small glass panelled bell top and a curved top aperture in the opening front door for the round topped silvered dial. The glass panels of the clock are again round topped and the canted corners have distinctive scroll work to the bottom. The clock stands on four adjustable flat bun feet, again made of gilded brass.

The clock has a silvered brass dial with Roman numerals and a flowing signature for the maker, ‘Corrie, London’ in the arch above 12 o’clock. The dial is viewed through the front glass which has a gilded brass sight ring. The Breguet style hands are of blued steel.

The eight day twin chain fusee movement is of fine quality. It is signed on the backplate for the maker, ‘Corrie, London,’ and employs an under slung lever escapement with a thin and light balance wheel very similar to those used by McCabe on his carriage clocks but with two adjusting screws in the rim. The clock strikes the hours on a steel gong mounted on the backplate which can be viewed through the glazed rear door.

Height: 8" (20 cms.)

Price band: C
