31449C.W An unusual and small early silvered dial wall clock. The mahogany case with only a small wooden surround to the nicely shaped brass bezel encloses the silvered dial with Arabic outer numerals and Roman inner numerals which is signed for the maker, Jullion, Brentford. It has unusually shaped and well pierced blued steel hands and the bezel has a convex glass. The eight day gut fusee movement has a reinstated verge escapement and nicely tapered plates with cut outs at the base. It has four knopped pillars and a pendulum hold fast on the backplate. |

8" and 10" dial clocks are unusual and this is a nice example with the added elegance of only a small amount of wood showing around the edge of the cast brass bezel. The maker, John Jullion sometimes spelt Julian, is noted as working from Brentford in the 1760s. There is no information as to when he ceased to work there but this clock would date from slightly later than that. |
