THOMAS JONES LONDON A GOOD EARLY FLAT TO THE WALL MAHOGANY STICK BAROMETER
CIRCA 1830

A very attractive mahogany barometer with a concave moulded cornice above the bow fronted glazed silvered dial which is signed for the maker "Thomas Jones, 62 Charing Cross, London".The long bow fronted trunk has an ivory adjuster knob for the vernier scale on the dial and is set with a similarly shaped glazed thermometer engraved with Fahrenheit and Reamur scales.The base with ebony mouldings and a well moulded ebony urn shaped cistern cover.

Height 97cms(3ft 2 ins)

Thomas Jones is noted as working from 1806-1852 . He was apprenticed to Jesse Ramsden.He was an authority on Astronomical and meteorological instruments, was instrument maker to the Duke of Clarence and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1835.
