31221C.C An extremely attractive chased and engraved English carriage clock. The case standing on small brass bun feet with heavily chased and engraved triple columns to the corners and chased and engraved mouldings to the top and bottom of the case. The dial mask and top of the case are engraved and the whole case is gilded. The dial with three apertures for the main silvered clock dial and the two subsidiary dials showing the date and the alarm. The centre of all three dials with floral engraving and all three dials with spade hands. Both the sides of the case and the rear door are solid, the sides being heavily engraved but the rear door being plain and unengraved. The case is numbered 692. The eight day standing barrel movement, of unusual design but with some French influence, strikes the hours and half hours on a gong mounted on the backplate. The chronometer escapement signed on the cock Noyer, London, completely fills the top of the movement and is viewed through the glass panel on the top of the case. Interestingly this is the only glass panel which allows you to view the workings of the clock. |
