AN ATTRACTIVE FRENCH GILT & SILVERED "STEAM HAMMER" CLOCK GARNITURE BY GUILMET. CIRCA 1880.

The main clock with inverted Y shaped form with patinated silvered and gilded brass finish. The usual platform to the left of the clock linked via a mock steam whistle handle to the imitation vent and whistle on top of the case. The steam hammer rising and falling with the pendulum. The matted silver dial with Roman numerals and gilt hands.

The clock movement is stamped Japy & GLT Bte SCDG Paris, the recognised mark for Guilmet. The movement rack striking on a bell. The compound pendulum linked to the steam hammer making it rise and fall. The candlestick garnitures for each side of similar construction, but with roller presses where the clock dial and steam hammer would be, each garniture with two candle holders. Both the clock and the garnitures are mounted on rectangular black marble bases with four flat ormolu feet.
