A MUSICAL CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH STRIKE/REPEAT & ALARM IN A CORNICHE CASE. CIRCA 1880.

This rare musical carriage clock has a gilded corniche case with a slightly deeper base than normal to house the musical movement which plays a Chinese style tune on the hour

The white enamel dial has a centre sweep seconds hand and an alarm dial below.

The eight day strike/repeat movement has the strike work mounted on the backplate and strikes the hours and half hours on a bell.

This unusual clock was almost certainly made for export to the Chinese market and indeed was purchased from a collector who had spent some years in Hong Kong.
