Jas. MODD, DONINGTON. AN OAK EIGHT DAY PAINTED DIAL LONGCASE CLOCK WITH SWAN-NECK PEDIMENT. CIRCA 1840.

The eight day bell striking movement has a 12" painted dial with a man and a woman gathering in the wheat with a cottage in the background. The corners are decorated with flowers and there are decorative brass hands for the seconds, minutes and hours with an aperture for the date. Roman numerals are employed.

The case, basically of oak, has mahogany veneers applied to the hood door and there are bands of mahogany surrounding the base and the trunk door which has a diamond shaped inlay let into the centre. The sides of the trunk are canted and decorated with boxwood stringing.
